Human Practices
[name of EV platform] has been developed to provide a real-world solution to the issues that are presented by the lack of platforms that are able to overcome important biological barriers; such as the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) and the gut epithelial barrier. Human Practices (HP) aided the developmental stages of our product by allowing us to develop a multi-faceted understanding of the implications this gap in research has on millions of people’s quotidian lives. This was done by hosting panels; conducting comprehensive interviews with researchers and patients, and participating in a diverse set of events to gauge an integrated understanding in the clinical gap in the market and in what aspect current treatment options were lacking.
Our product was co-developed with researchers, clinicians and regulatory experts who gave us the opportunity to constantly refine our choice of nanobodies, plasmid designs and In Vitro methods. With their help, we were able to create a viable solution to the issues that are raised by the fact that no platform on the market is able to cross barriers such as the BBB and reach important targets in diseases that are seeing substantial surges, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. We believe that our work has the potential to redefine X and gene therapies, and we are excited to see this come to fruition as other individuals in the field work with the platform we have created!

Input From Patients Through Surveys and Interviews
We plan on making Qualtrics surveys to send out to patients to better understand what the gap in the market is for current neurodegeneration treatments/therapies. We also hope to interview patients to further understand the impact our EV could have. If we do go ahead with this, we will try to prepare for these interviews with the UMC Medical Humanities Hub. This also ties in very nicely with the clinical significance aspect of HP.

Through HP, we will be implementing the KANO framework to our project. The KANO model is a theory that prioritises patient/customer satisfaction and should therefore allow us to identify which design features of our EV platform are essential, performance-enhancing, or non-critical, based on stakeholder expectations.
